Pellegrino talks direction of the Predators franchise, the future direction for GM Barry Trotz
By Ice Insider Relations
BOSTON--Monday morning, IceInsider.com's Founder and Owner Anthony Pellegrino joined the Rod Pedersen show (RodPedersen.com, TheGame+, Apple, Spotify, WQEE Radio) to discuss the short-term, and long-term future of the Nashville Predators; and what Steven Stamkos brings to Nashville.
"We saw Stamkos make his debut. He looked quite good, he posted a goal which indeed came from the one-timer. That is what Nashville Predators fans are anticipating. That player, on the power-play, we have the number one guy now." Pellegrino said
Tampa Bay has been home, for the past 17 years, to veteran forward Steven Stamkos. All 1,137 points and 1,082 games were spent with a Lightning bolt embroidered onto his jersey crest.
"It's different, I'm not going to lie. You've been ingrained with that color pattern over the years. It will take time to get used to it."
Seeking to hoist the Stanley Cup for a third time, he signed a four-year, $32 million contract with Nashville. He will be 38 years old when it expires. It's evident, this very well could be Stamkos' final years in the NHL.
Yet if Stamkos, 34, can keep play consistent like he has for his entire career, the Predator's chance at a Stanley Cup is within reach.
Pellegrino brought up the point to Pedersen, that Nashville's GM recognizes the situation he's in, with players beginning to near the end of their careers, yet still having enough time to win it all.
"That's exactly what GM Barry Trotz wanted to do; is to take this next step. He recognizes the window and the spot that the team is in. You have Roman Josi, blink your eyes and now he's 34. Time is indeed not on their side. He had two ways to go about this offseason, the route that teams like Chicago are going with, the five-year rebuild plan. Or the window to win it all. We found the direction he wanted to go on the morning of July 1st."
Trotz even mentioned "the window" to win a Stanley Cup is now, in a press confrence to begin training camp.
